A coarse substratum constituting a dominance (≥ 80 %) of particles with grainsizes 0.0625-2 mm in any dimension.

Level 4 definitions

  • Very Fine Sand: A sand where particles between 0.0625-0.125 mm in any dimension are dominant (constitute ≥ 80 % of the sand).
  • Fine Sand: A sand where particles between 0.125-0.250 mm in any dimension are dominant (constitute ≥ 80 % of the sand).
  • Medium Sand: A sand where particles between 0.25-0.5 mm in any dimension are dominant (constitute ≥ 80 % of the sand).
  • Coarse Sand: A sand where particles between 0.5-1 mm in any dimension are dominant (constitute ≥ 80 % of the sand).
  • Very Coarse Sand: A sand where particles between 1-2 mm in any dimension are dominant (constitute ≥ 60 % of the sand).
