Report
Carnarvon Canyon Marine Park is located about 300 kilometres north-west of Canarvon. A significant feature within this marine park is the Carnarvon Canyon, a single-channel canyon spanning the entire depth range of the marine park. The soft sediment habitat at the base of this canyon is believed to support species typical of such deep water environments, such as holothurians, polychaetes and majestic feather-like sea-pens.
The park covers 6,177 square kilometres and is a Habitat Protection zone. While some types of commercial fishing are allowed in the Habitat Protection Zone, others are restricted in order to protect important habitats. – Parks Australia
Carnarvon Canyon ranges from 1,996 to 5,228 metres depth, with an average depth of 4,071 metres. The majority of the park (60%) falls within the abyssal zone (4,000-6,000 metres) [view on map]. The mapped areas of the seafloor are dominated by Slope (51%) and Plane (24%) morphological features [view on map].
No public seafloor imagery (Squidle+) is currently available for this Park.
