Report
Geographe Marine Park is located in Geographe Bay, about 8 kilometres west of Bunbury, and adjacent to the state-managed Ngari Capes Marine Park. The sheltered waters of the bay support extensive and diverse seagrass meadows that cover about 60 percent of the seafloor in the area. These tropical and temperate seagrass beds account for about 80 percent of the regions primary productivity, and provide important nursery habitat for a range of marine species.
The park covers 977 square kilometres, and has Habitat Protection, Multiple Use and Special Purpose (Mining Exclusion) zones. – Parks Australia
Geographe ranges from less than 12 to 47 metres depth, with an average depth of 30 metres. The majority of the park (53%) falls within the mesophotic zone (30-70 metres) [view on map]. The mapped areas of the seafloor are dominated by Plane (56%) and Slope (17%) morphological features [view on map].
Seafloor imagery (Squidle+) exists for this Park but has not yet been annotated.
