Jurien Marine Park contains shelf habitats that are defined by distinct ridges of limestone reef with extensive beds of macroalgae. Inshore lagoons are inhabited by a diverse range of invertebrates and fish. Seagrass meadows occur in more sheltered areas as well as in the inter-reef lagoons along exposed sections of coast.
The park is located in Commonwealth waters off Jurien Bay, approximately half way between Perth and Geraldton, offshore from the Western Australian Jurien Bay Marine Park. It covers 1,851 square kilometres, and has National Park and Special Purpose zones. – Parks Australia
Jurien ranges from 26 to 265 metres depth, with an average depth of 73 metres. The majority of the park (72%) falls within the mesophotic zone (30-70 metres) [view on map].
Based on annotations from publicly available seafloor imagery (Squidle+), the five most dominant seafloor categories in this Park are:
- Shallow: no public imagery available
- Mesophotic: macroalgae (75%), sand (16%), sponges (5%), unidentified (2%), consolidated hard substrata (2%)
